Read this article to know about the Architectural Details of Golghar, A Very Famous Monument in Patna, Bihar

The architecture of the Golghar is special in itself because today, you cannot see these beehive shaped granaries anywhere else in the country and if you can then they are not as big and beautiful as the Golghar in Patna. However, let me go into a big more detail about the architectural details of the Golghar.

The architectural style of the Golghar is called Stupa style. In the stupa style, you can see that most the monuments have a tall projection. If not, then the monument itself is a circular, or cylindrical or a conical projection type of thing. However, the Golghar does not have a projection, it is in the second type of what I mentioned.

At its base, its diameter is 125m and the height of this tall granary is 29m. At its base, it also has thick walls, which have an incredible thickness of about 3.6metres which you can imagine would surely add to the strength of the building, so as to store grains safely. Also, to deposit the grains, there is a 145 steps staircase using which the workers took the grain and deposited it all through the top of the Golghar.

Really, whatever the Britishers built, namely the Golghar is nothing less than a gift to the today's Indian society because it is a popular tourist center all over the city popularized. You can visit it on your near holiday schedule.
