How to Make Khichdi - Ingredients plus methods

Khichdi is a dish popular all over India but with Bihar and Jharkhand, it is something special. I don’t know about others but here we all have it on every Saturday’s lunch. It’s like a tradition in Bihar and Jharkhand. It also represents the rural life because it has a rural taste which is liked by all. Here I am going to give you the ingredients list and the method to make this what I call Delicious dish.

Ingredients

1. Rice – 200g
2. Urad or Masoor or Chana Dal (or all in equal or as per taste proportions but don’t increase the mass) - 180g
3. Garlic paste – 10 small piece
4. Pepper powder – 10 granules
5. Ginger paste – equal in mass to the garlic
6. Vegetables of choice sliced– Tomato, Cauli Flower, Peas, Spinach, etc – Total 150g max
7. Salt –As per taste
8. Turmeric Powder – 1 Small teaspoon.
9. Cumin seeds – ½ spoon
10. Red chilli – 2 pieces
11. Oil – 2 teaspoon
12. Ghee – 1 or 2 teaspoon

Method

Put about 2.5 litre of water in a pressure cooker and put rice, dal, garlic paste, pepper powder, ginger paste, sliced vegetables, salt, turmeric powder, all together in the pressure cooker and heat them until the whistle goes off. After about 15 minutes, take the cooker off from the flame. Now take a vessel and put the oil red chilli and cumin seeds and put it over the flame for about 2 minutes. Now give a condiment using the vessel into the cooked Khichdi and after that to add more taste to this tasteful recipe, simply add 1 or 2 teaspoon of ghee in the khichdi or if you wish to add more, you can add upto 4 teaspoons, but then it will be something that is only tasteful to you.

You may garnish it with coriander leaves. You khichdi is ready for you, waiting.
