Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata was born on 3rd march 1839 in a small town named Navsari in southern part of Gujarat. Jamsetji’s parents name was Nusserwanji andJeevanbai Tata.

Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata was born in a Parsi family in which Nusserwanji was the first one to choose the occupation of business. Jamsetji’s father moved to Bombay to start his trading business. Jamsetji got admitted in Elphinstone collage at the age of 14 in Bombay. He was married at very early age when he was in the collage.

After his graduation in 1858 he joined his father’s trading work, but that was not a good time for stepping into business because first of all the Indians were under the rule of the British and recently the Indian rebellion of 1857 had failed. The British were very angry and this could have created a problem for him, but he was not a man who acts according to the society and he continued walking in his own principles.

He also took part in the Indian rebellion against the British rule. He was very much influenced by the thinking of the rebellions such as Pherozeshah Mehta and Dadabhai Naoroji .He told that when there is political freedom it should always come with the economic self efficiency .He was very conscious about his work as well towards his motherland. He was a country lover as well as his countrymen lover.
