Career of Rajendra Prasad


This article talks about the career of Rajendra Prasad.

Dr. Rajendra Prasad was a very diversified personality. He was a leader, a teacher, an economist and what not. In the career of Rajendra Prasad, basicaly two professions come along - Teacher and Lawyer.

Rajendra Prasad taught as a teacher in various educational institution, especially in Bihar and West Bengal. He joined as a professor in Bhumihar Brahman College, Muzzaffarpur in 1908 and later became the principal of that college. In 1916, Rajendra Prasad joined the High Court of Bihar and also of Orissa as he also used to practise law.

Upon the call of Mahatma Gandhi, Rajendra Prasad joined the Indian Independence Movement with full zeal and zeast. It was the very starting of the career of Rajendra Prasad that he left the university of Calcutta and then joined the movement. He also asked his son Mrityunjay Prasad to leave the institution in which he used to study and then enroll into a local Bihar school.

During his career, he made friends with Mahapandit Rahul Sanskrityayan, a great Indian writer. He took active role in helping the people affected by the flood in 1914 in Bihar and Bengal. He also used to write article for the publications Searchlight and the Desh.

He was elected as the President of Indian National Congress in the Bombay Session in October 1934. After India was announced Independent, Rajendra Prasad was the first President of Independent India. He retired from work in 1962.

Subsequently in 1963, Rajendra Prasad was awarded with the Bharat Ratna title for the work he had done for his nation.
