Panchet dam in Jharkhand.


One of the four dams built in early independence days to check flood in Bengal. Panchet dam is located in Dhanbad, Jharkhand lies between the beautiful Panchet hills. This was the reason why Panchet Dam got its name as Panchet Dam.

Panchet dam is located in Dhanbad district of Jharkhand and lies amidst the beautiful Panchet hills. Panchet dam was built in 1959 to control the havoc wreaking Damodar river which flooded Bengal and was known as 'sorrow of Bengal'. The Panchet dam is built on Damodar river and is maintained by the Damodar valley corporation.

Panchet Dam can be reached by rail, bus or local transport. The nearest railway station to Panchet Dam is Kumardhubi about 9kms from here.The widespread water body along with the greenery around is mesmerising.It has also become a hot picnic spot for people especially in winters when people love the sunny days amidst greenery and the majestic river.
