Apple Kheer & Singhara Ka Halwa - Navratri Specialties in Bihar

As Navaratri festival is going on all over India, i'm presenting few reciepes for the people who keep fasting during Navaratri. I'm going to talk about Apple Kheer and Singhara ka Halwa in this resource.

Navratri the nine days of worshipping Goddess Durga. During navratri the whole atmosphere changes into spiritual and we can here vedic mantras everywhere. Many people keep fasting these days some for complete nine days & some on specific days. So here i'm providing some dishes which are consumable during navratri specially for the people's keeping fast.


Ingredients for apple kheer
Apple - 2 medium sized
Khoya - 200 gm
Sugar - 200 gm
Milk - 1 litre
Kewda Essence - few drops
Cardamom - 10gm

Method for preparing apple kheer
Peel the apple and grate it
In a pan mix the khoya & sugar and keep aside
Boil the milk
Then mix the khoya & sugar mixture in it
Cook till it becomes smooth
Mix the grated apple to it and cook well
Now mix kewada essence and put off from the flame
Now add cardamom to it.
Serve hot/cold as one likes


Ingredients for Singhara ka Halwa
Shinghara ka Atta - 150 gm
Cashewnuts - 8
Raisins - 20gm
Cardamoms - 20 gm
Sugar - 200 gm
Water/Milk - 500 ml
Rose Water - a few drops
Ghee - 30 gm

Method for making Singhara ka Halwa
Heat fat
Lightly brown singhara ka atta
Add sugar, water/milk and raisins
Cook slowly till the water/milk is absorbed, stirring all the time
Remove when cooked
Add cashewnuts, rose water and crushed cardamoms.
Serve hot
