Migration of laborers from Bihar fall by 26%


Migration of laborers from Bihar fall to places like Punjab, Delhi, Maharastra etc. has fallen by 26 percent due to development work by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Get percentage wise breakup of migrated laborers from Bihar to different states here.

There has been a fall of 26 percent in the migration of laborers from Bihar in search of work to places like Punjab and Delhi, Mahrasthra etc. The welcome change has come as a result of development work by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. According to a survey during the last 5 years migration of unskilled laborers from bihar to different parts of country in search of work has fallen to about 26 percent in 26.53 per cent in 2006-08 as compared to 2001-03.

The districts on which this survey was carried on was Siwan, Madhubani, Saharsa, Bhagalpur, Nalanda and. Another survey will be done in January-February 2012 to get an idea of how more reduction has been done in the amount of people migrating from Bihar in search of livelihood.

The percentage wise breakup of migrated laborers from Bihar to different states is as follows:
  • Punjab : 26.36 %
  • Delhi : 21.34 %
  • Maharashtra : 15.06 %,
  • Haryana : 11.72 %
  • West Bengal : 5.86 %

  • Lack of employment was the most significant reason for the migration of laborers form Bihar. However with growth rate of 14 per cent in 2010-11, unskilled are finding work in Bihar itself.
