Jeevan Asha is new social welfare program launched in Jharkhand to fight and eradicate malnutrition among children in Jharkhand. Cash transfer in Jeevan Asha scheme against malnutrition in Jharkhand


Jeevan Asha program was started by honourable Governor of Jharkhand Mr. Syed Ahmed by unveiling the logo of Jeevan Asha program. Jharkhand has the worst record when it comes to malnutrition among children. Every second child in Jharkhand who is below 3 years of age is under-weight and every 10th child in Jharkhand is severe acute malnourished. Jeevan Asha scheme is aimed at fighting malnourishment among children below 5 years of age in all villages and tolas of Jharkhand.

For this, first of all identification of severe acute malnourished children will be done by household survey More than 1 lakh Anganwadi workers will be trained for carrying out door to door survey in every village. Then Conditional Cash Transfers (CCTs) of Rs1500 will be given to the SAM affected child to help them recover from Severe Acute Malnutrition. This cash of Rs. 1500 per month will be given to parent of the child on the condition that health of this child shows visible improvement to confirm that the mother/father/relative is using the money correctly on the child. This type of cash transfer scheme has already been implemented in Africa and is successful there. Departments of Health & Family Welfare, Social Welfare, Women & Child Development and Panchayati Raj, are collectively looking into Jeevan Asha social welfare scheme in Jharkhand. UNICEF will be providing technical support.
