New Electricity bill tariff rates in Bihar for domestic and commercial users from 1 April 2013. Electricity rates in Bihar for Urban domestic consumers, users under Kutir Jyoti Scheme, commercial users, persons using electricity for agricultural purpose etc. have been increased. Bihar State Electricity Board (BSEB), which is now known as Bihar State Power Holding Company, (BSPHC) has increased the electricity bill rates in Bihar. New Electricity tariff rates in Bihar was approved by the Bihar Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) on 15th March 2013. The new rates of electricity bill in Bihar will be applicable form 1st April 2013.

Though Bihar State Power Holding Company had proposed to increase the electricity bill rates by 58.4%, Bihar Energy Regulatory Commission only granted an overall increase of 6.9% in the existing electricity tariff rates in Bihar. Even after increasing the electricity rates in Bihar, Bihar State Electricity Board is a loss of Rs 3,427 crore during the next financial year. Here are some details of the new electricity bill rates in Bihar which would come into affect from 1sr April 2013.
  • Urban domestic consumers : For Urban domestic consumers in Bihar, increase in electricity rates will be 25-40 paise per unit (10% increase).
  • Commercial users : For Commercial users in Bihar, increase in electricity rates will be 20-30 paise per unit (4% increase).
  • Kutir Jyoti Scheme : There has been an increase of 10% in electricity tariff for consumers of power under Kutir Jyoti Scheme
  • Agriculture and other rural power consumers : They also will alos to pay more price
  • Rural domestic power consumers : Increase will be 6.66% extra.
  • Power used for irrigation in Urban areas : There will be 10% hike
  • Farmers using electricity in of rural areas : No increase

  • Thus the domestic users living in cities are expected to be hurt most by this increase in electricity rates in Bihar.
